Glazed fragment from a thick walled earthen ware vessel probably a jug or tankard of probable late medieval or post medieval date (1400-1600). This sherd is from the upper half of the handle and consists of the junction between the body of the jug and the handle. The sherd is irregular in plan and cross section. The fabric is relatively hard with a number of rounded and sub-angular quartz, sand, and broken pottery (temper) inclusions. A worn handle fragment from a medieval jug. The handle is of twisted cable construction; it is broadly sexfoil in section. Grey surface tempered with limestone giving way to an orange coloured core in worn areas. Patches of dull green lead glaze remain, particularly within grooves created by the twisted pattern.
