Two Roman samian pottery sherds (of the same piece) from the base of a flat-bottomed bowl or plate. The nature of the fabric - which is mid orangey-red in colour with small calcareous inclusions and has a dark reddish-brown slip - may indicate an eastern Gaulish origin. The two sherds when pieced together measure 42mm long by 39.9mm wide and 6.3mm thick. They weigh 10.77g

A body sherd from the upper side of a Roman samian bowl of 1st to 3rd century AD date. The outer face of the sherd is decorated with a horizontal ovolo border and, as with the inner face, has lost most of its slip. The fabric is deep orange in colour and may indicate a central or eastern Gaulish origin. The sherd measures 33.4mm wide by 41mm high and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 8.10g.

A rim sherd of Roman samian ware, probably from a steep-sided bowl or cup, possibly similar to a Dragendorff type 33 (P.Webster, 1996, p.45) vessel. The fabric is light pinkish-orange and has a dark reddish-brown slip. It is most likely to have come from southern Gaul and probably dates from the 1st or 2nd century AD. The sides are slightly convex and there is a transverse groove near the lowest point of the outer face. The sherd is relatively unabraded and measures 42.2mm long by 29.4mm wide and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 9.18g.

The rim extends outwards from the wall of the vessel at an angle of ninety degrees, creating a flat area with the possible trace of a lid seat. The sides are angled at approximately forty-five degrees. The fabric is mid grey in section and has frequent small stone inclusions. The outer surface is light orange. The sherd is heavily abraded and measures 26.3mm long by 14.4mm wide and 7mm thick. It weighs 3.90g.

The base is flat and the wall extends upwards at an angle of approximately forty five degrees. The fabric is mid grey in section, has orange surfaces, and contains moderate medium-sized grog inclusions. The sherd measures 57.8mm long by 41.6mm wide and 12.9mm thick. It weighs 32.61g.

A sherd of late Roman pottery. The piece consists of part of the rim and upper body of a Hadham Ware "Roman/Saxon" bowl. The rim does not project greatly from the body and there is a horizontal groove extending around the underside of its outer edge. Two narrower horizontal grooves lie below this and above a raised circular boss. The fabric is light grey and has few visible inclusions. It measures 37mm wide by 49.1mm high and 10mm thick. It weighs 14.02g.

The rim is flat on top, with a steep vertical outer edge and a clear break with the body. The sherd measures 85mm long by 37.1mm high and 26mm thick. It weighs 55.08g. The edges are slightly abraded.
