A small fragment (rim) from an Oxfordshire colour coated fineware vessel (AD 325-400). The fabric is orange red with a rouletted decoration on the neck immediately below the rim. The slip has now worn off. The fragment is from a small-necked vessel, probably a bowl with an out-turned rim. Similar to Young c75.14.

A Medieval pottery rim sherd from a wheel thrown vessel (AD 1066-1500). The rim has a rectangular profile with flat upper surface. The fabric is grey with a red surface and course flint inclusions. The temper also included organic matter that has burnt out leaving spaces behind in the fabric. Dimensions: Weight: 5.27g

A Roman pottery body sherd (43-410AD). The sherd is very abraded and the majority of the surface has worn away. The fabric is orange on the exterior and buff on the interior, with the change in colour occurring midway through the fabric. There are also the remains of a dark buff slip on the exterior. Frequent grit, quartz and grog inclusions, this sherd is possibly from a mortarium although the fabric is fairly soft. Weight: 14.42g.

Three Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) - Medieval conjoining rim and base sherds from a large bowl (11th – 13th century). The vessel is hand-made with a shelly fabric and has been fired in a partially oxidised kiln. The bowl has an angular and slightly inturned rim and sagging base. Identification by Lauren Gilmour. Two pottery body sherds from cooking vessels, possibly early Saxon. The sherds are shelly-ware with a quite soft fabric with frequent shell inclusions; some organic temper that has burned out and some gravel. The vessels were handmade and the surface has not been pared. The external surface is oxidised with a dark grey core. There are signs of burning on the internal surface of both sherds.
