Damaged lead vesica-shaped seal matrix. The matrix has a foliage motif in the centre and an inscription surrounding it reading: S:'AGNETIS FILIE ALAN (Seal of Agnes daughter of Alan). The inscription appears to be complete and the damage at the end of ALAN looks to be where the lead has been split and squashed rather than being missing. The suspension loop on the reverse is missing.

Fragment of a probably lead seal matrix. The object looks to be one quarter of a vessica shaped seal matric. The reverse is flat and plain. The face of the object has an incised line running down the long edge. This is more likely to be a mark caused during the cutting up of the seal rather than decoration, for the line runs through other decorative motifs and the legend surrounding it. The other motifs are uncertain although there appears to be a circle with a pellet in the centre. The legend is difficult to read: there perhaps a G followed by F' A?M. The last letter is probabl…

Three quarters of a lead circular seal matrix. Missing section is probably the very top of the matrix, meaning that the legend is illegible at that point. Back appears to have been flat and plain, although there may have been a small protrusion at the centre back. Thickened section above may be the flattened remains of the suspension loop. Device: Remains of an eight-petalled compass flower.
Measurements: 30 mm x 26 mm; original diameter 30 mm plus.

Two adjoining pieces of a lead circular seal matrix, some 85% of the total. Missing section is the bottom right, but the edge is also damaged at the top left, meaning that the legend is illegible at that point. Back retains evidence of a cast design, possibly a small fleur-de-lys or double loop in the centre. Small raised section above is the remains of the base of the suspension loop. Device: remains of an eight-petalled compass flower, with the breaks being along the flower petals.
Measurements: larger piece (almost exactly half of the original matrix); 32 mm x 18 mm; smaller piece:…

A lead vesica-shaped (pointed oval) seal matrix with slight bends at edges. Back is in relatively poor condition, but a pattern of dots suggest that it had a semi-raised design of either a fleur-de-lys, with the end of the midrib flaring out to form the uppermost petal and the lug, apparently unperforated, at the base. The other two falls were delineated by dots; alternatively, it may have been a design of three spirals. Device is a semi-abstract floral design consisting of two elegant fleur-de-lys-like falls. Above this, two lines of similar thickness to the falls curving inward to fo…

A medieval lead seal matrix. It is a pointed oval in shape, 30.74mm in length and 15.30mm wide, weighing 8.77g. It is worn flat so that nothing of the inscription or decoration can be determined. The reverse is also plain and worn, with a small patch of applied lead near one pointed terminal, indicating the position of a loop handle now missing. It is similar in shape to a lead seal illustrated in Read, 1995,no 420 .

Lead Seal matrix, pointed oval (vesica) in shape and dating to the 13th century. The matrix weighs 10.15g and measures 35.73mm in length, 21.9mm in width and 6.8mm in thickness (including loop). The central motif on the seal matrix is an eight pointed star, possibly representing a Christmas star. The seal has a legend around the outside which reads S'RICARD' B' DV. There is a dot between the two arms of the V implying it is an abbreviation, as is the B. There is no way of knowing exactly what the abbreviation stands for but it is possibly something like 'deo volente' (God willing).

Unseen, recorded from impression only. Lead, vesica-shaped (pointed oval) seal matrix, simple cast fleur-de-lys design on reverse, with intact suspension loop. Device: a cross, the vertical limbs being ears of corn, the horizontal plain. Two small subsidiary ears of corn (or stylized iris petals) either side of the top limb. An unusual lead alloy seal matrix. Face is circular, with tapering handle, circular in cross-section, which has been broken at the bottom of the suspension loop; the small piece of metal protruding to the side at the top may have been one side of the suspension loop. Device: a very crude wheatsheaf or possibly fleur-de-lys of three upright elongated pentagons joining at a short horizontal stroke, below which are visible three further short lines. Across the widest part of the pentagons a diagonal line which appears to end in a short streamer or ribbon; two similar streamers are visible…
