Southern (Atrebates/Regni). Silver unit attributed to Commios and inscribed with a 'lazy E'. Found in association with SUSS-068057.
The coins date to the late pre-Roman Iron Age period, and were made in the mid-late first century BC. They are both of the same type. Made of silver, they are thought by some to have been made by a British ruler called Commius who may have been king over Hampshire and West Sussex at this time. An early Southern silver inscribed 'E' unit attributed to Commios, who was the ruler of the Atrebates tribe (covering basically Hampshire and Sussex) for some period between c. 50 to perhaps c. 20 BC. Found with SUSS-071163.
