Barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the early to middle Bronze Age. This arrowhead is bifacially worked with covering removals and is triangular in shape. Two notches were flaked at the proximal end to form the tang and barbs which are now damaged. The tip of the arrowhead has been snapped, and the edges of the arrowhead show clear signs of plough damage. It is 25.75mm long, 19.47mm wide, 5.1mm thick and weighs 2.49 grams.

Small, cast gold 'finger-ingot', roughly plano-convex in section. Cut marks are visible (possibly done with a chisel in antiquity). Comparable pieces were found in a hoard from Mooghaun, County Clare, Ireland, where other items are datable to the Late Bronze Age. This example is probably of a similar date.

Cast copper alloy unlooped middle Bronze Age palstave axehead. The blade has a wide cresent shaped cutting edge that is corroded and chipped with no evidence of the original sharp edge. There is a triangular shaped recess below the stop ridge (blade end) on one side, while corrosion obscures this on the other side. The stop ridge is rectangular in plan, and diamond shaped in profile. There is an old break at the butt end. Casting scars are found down the length of both sides. Mainly dark green in colour with lighter green pitting caused by corrosion. The original polished dark brown pa…

Cast copper alloy Middle Bronze Age dirk or rapier blade. The blade narrows just below a trapzoidal shaped hilt, becoming parallel-sided, and is bent just before a worn transverse break. The hilt has two rivet holes, of 7.25mm diameter. One of these is incomplete, but the other retains a cylindrical copper alloy rivet, length 13mm by diameter 8.2mm. These rivets would have attached the handle, which would have been of an organic material such as wood or horn. Based on the line drawing this fragment has been reidentified as a group IV dirk or rapier, and not a dagger as previously…

Cast copper alloy Late Bronze Age socketed gouge, with part of the wooden handle surviving. The gouge itself is worn, possibly from water action, and is incomplete, most of the mouth having broken off. There are a pair of faint incised transverse lines, presumably decoration, just below the mid- way point, around the back of the gouge. The gouge measures 72.36mm in length, 18.14mm-20.07mm in width and it weighs 54g. The wooden handle, which is shaped to fit the socket is 73.15mm long, 12.75mm-13.43mm wide and weighs 7g. When the handle is inserted into the socket the combined obje…

Cast copper alloy palstave tool, probably a re-worked chisel. The haft, which accounts for 75mm of the 97.69mm overall length, has a shield-shaped terminal, indicating an early date in the Middle Bronze Age for this object. It seems probable that the blade was originally much longer, and straight-sided. It was re-worked, possibly as a blade, with the re-working producing a rounded, flared cutting edge. A lip around the terminal of the haft has been largely removed by re-working. The object has an even, dark-brown patina.

Object type: ARMLET
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy penannular ring, probably an armlet or torc. For most of its length it has a rounded cross-section with a maximum diameter of about 9mm. It narrows towards each terminal, before expanding slightly into terminals with a squarish cross-section about 6-7mm across. It is bent slightly out of shape. This object is possibly of Bronze Age date, but its lack of diagnostic features makes this uncertain.
