Almost complete medieval copper alloy buckle with plate. This buckle has an oval frame with a D shaped section. i.e it has a flat inner face and domed outer face. It has a narrowed and offset pin bar. The pin is missing. The front of the frame is also narrowed and offset to hold a sheet roller, now missing. At either end of this offset the frame protrudes at the sides. The plate for the buckle is formed from a sheet of copper alloy that is folded around the off set pin bar. Worn and corroded copper alloy mount. The mount is square in plan with rounded corners and is slightly domed in section. The face of the mount is decorated with a grooved cross, with a small, raised square tight in each angle, and a central raised dot. the reverse of the mount is concave. Only a tiny fraction of the integral shaft (about 1mm) remains. The surface of the mount is heavily corroded with orange coloured corrosion product, but some original surface survives with a dark brown patina.
