A cast copper alloy, gilded Anglo-Saxon button brooch. The brooch has an angular rim, which is slightly damaged. The brooch is otherwise flat and circular (maximum diameter 20.09mm). The brooch depicts two incised circles, just inside the rim. Inside the circle there is a depiction of a stylised head, the head could be anthropomorphic. The shapes which make up the face are all raised. The face has been very highly stylised, almost to the point where it no long resembles a face. A cast copper alloy early Anglo-Saxon disc brooch, dating from the 5th - 6th century. A very similar brooch was recovered from a tumulus on Beddingham Hill (Nr. Lewes) and was published in Horsfield, T.W. 1824. The History and Antiquities of Lewes and its Vicinity, Plate V. Other similar brooches were recovered from the excavations at Alfriston (East Sussex). See Welch (1983) and Griffith & Salzmann (1914) full references below. A cast copper alloy Kraftig Profilierte type Roman brooch, with a Colchester type spring mechanism of eight turns set into the reverse loop and the external chord present. The bow is S-shaped in profile. The head of the bow is widened, but does not cover the coil. The bow knob is a single transverse flange; there is a single terminal knob at the foot. A copper-alloy cloisonné enamelled brooch dating form the late Anglo-Saxon period, circa 10th - 11th century. This brooch is circular in shape with evenly spaced circular edge projections or lobes. Only six out of a possible seven of the lobes survive. A space and scar exist where the seventh would have originally been. Two are very badly damaged. The front face is decorated with a floral geometric motif executed in cloisonné enamelling. An incomplete Roman Colchester derivative (dolphin) brooch, from the 1st century AD. The brooch has been cast in copper alloy. The remaining part of the brooch consists of complete wings, with a coiled spring of 10 turns set into the reverse loop and the external chord present parallel to the wings. The bow is broken just below the bend, and is has a wide raised central ridge. The wings survive in full but are worn. There is incised decoration to the outer edges of the wings. A cast copper alloy Anglo Saxon button brooch with traces of gilding still remaining. The obverse is complete. The reverse is undecorated, but the broken remains of the pin lug and the catchplate survive as small lumps. The pin lug and the catchplate have been arranged in a longitudinal alignment. No pin survives. A human face is set within an undecorated rim. The helmet is rounded and the brow almost straight forming a T- shape with the nose. A cast copper alloy Saxon brooch fragment, dating to the late 5th- 6th century. This fragment is the terminal lobe of a square-headed brooch. The object is sub oval in shape with a central teardrop shaped raised panel. Surrounding this are three alternate pairings of concentric raised and incised lines following the teardrop shape, the outer of which forms a raised edge to the fragment. A cast copper alloy plate brooch, which is probably Roman, but an exact parallel cannot be found. The brooch is basically circular in shape, with cut a ways into the plate. There is a ridge running along the centre of the brooch, the design is symmetrical. There is a moulded design, which has been cast onto the surface of the plate. The cut a ways are opposite each other and resemble heart-shapes (but are obviously not meant to be hearts in modern terms). The tip of the heart shape then opens out forming two gaps in the edge of the plate.

A cast copper alloy annular brooch, with a D-shaped frame section. The brooch is gilded. The brooch has a pin recess, within which the pin still sits. Either side of the pin is a sub-rectangular collar. This arrangement is then bordered by to crescent shapes. The open side of the crescent then joins the D-shaped frame proper. This pattern is repeated on the opposite side of the brooch, but instead of the pin recess, there is a space for the pin to rest. The reverse of the brooch is flat and undecorated. The pin is complete and has a rounded section, it is 11.90mm in length.

A silver annular brooch. The frame is made up of concave-sided square section twisted cable-style silver wire. There are filigree pellets along each face. There is a pin recess, but no pin rest. The pin is flat and tapering. The brooch is approximately 17mm in diameter and weighs 0.99g. The pin measures 16.79mm in length.
A similar brooch can be seen in the Annual Treasure Report 2002, pp80, Fig: 76 (2002 T151). This item was found before the Treasure Act became law. These brooches date from the 13th - 14th century.

A cast copper alloy 1st - 2nd century AD, Trumpet brooch, with enamelled, moulded and inlaid decoration.
Behind the trumpet head the remains of a single pierced lug can still be seen but it is worn and corroded, and only the broken stumps survive. The front of the head has been decorated with moulded decorations inlaid with blue enamel. The brooch then tapers inwards to the bow, which also has moulded decoration. The lower part of the bow thickens with further mouldings.
The foot and catchplate have broken off and the break is very corroded. The pin is also missing.

The brooch depicts an incised circle, just inside the rim. Inside the circle there is a depiction of some sort of head, the head could be anthropomorphic or it could be zoomorphic. The lines and shapes, which make up the face and the circle, are all incised. These areas have traces of gilding still surviving. The surface of the brooch is in a comparably good condition.

The frame is interrupted; so therefore has a pin recess (this has noe broken). The pin is missing. There is no decoration on the brooch. The metal has lost most of its original surface and the metal is a dark greyish-green colour. This type of brooch dates from the medieval to early post-medieval period.

An incomplete Roman brooch. The brooch has been cast in copper alloy. All that survives of the brooch is the long, slender bow. The bow is usually large for a Roman brooch. The bow resembles a Roman knee brooch, where the bow bends outwards, before tapering inwards to the foot of the brooch. Below this bend there is a transverse ridge.
