The function of the object is not certain. It is made from cast copper alloy with an iron core, and is either a fragment or an incomplete object. The object is a sub-conical, with two wide horizontal grooves towards the lower edge. In section, it is a sub-circle, but one face is slightly flattened. Protruding off-centre through the copper alloy portion is a circular sectioned rod. This rod is 4mm in diameter. The object has a well developed mid green patina. Anglo-Saxon square headed brooch bow? 29mm long and 25mm wide. The object is in a poor condition and has a dark green/black patina which may result from burning? The object is 5mm thick and weighs 17.17grams. It appears plain apart from a raised border, 4mm thick, on three sides. The object is curved almost 90o with one edge flattening out on the reverse where it would join the headplate. The fragment is very similar to square headed bows but it does not have the usual medial ridge.
