The fragment is of fired clay, which does not appear to be a vessel. The exterior surface is relatively smooth, but all over the fragment there are possible vegetation impressions. The fabric is dark grey throughout, and is fine in its composition. It weighs 43g.

The brooch is a Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.a Plate 46. It has been made from cast copper alloy. Polden Hill type brooches date to the first century. Hattatt illustrates a similar brooch in Brooches of Antiquity, No. 898.

The sherd is 8.87mm thick and weighs 3.6g. It is 20.61mm long and 16.97mm wide.

Copper-alloy buckle with integral plate. The frame is D-shaped and has moulded ridges around the edge. There is a circular pin hole 3 mm in diameter; to either side of this is a small projecting lobe. The plate is asymmetric and has three rounded lobes separated by curved grooves; each lobe has a circular perforation slightly smaller than the pin hole.

Copper-alloy mount, probably from the top of a bridle to support an upright swivelling element, perhaps a flag-like banner. The mount is long and probably originally straight, with two rectangular slots (probably for straps to slide through) and three rivet holes. It is now bent and one-third is folded back on itself.
