An unidentified object made of copper alloy and iron. The artefact consists of a flat oval copper alloy plate (38mm x 23.7mm x 1.3mm, 5.95g) with a sub-circular 4mm perforation at each end. These holes apparently received iron rivets or pins, the corroded ends of which remain in the other object; this second piece is formed of a flat copper alloy strip, with small rectangular block ‘feet’ at each end, in the bases of which are the stubs of the rivets (32.5mm x 12.32 x 7.4mm, 9.46g). The upper surface of both the plate and fitting are decorated with stamped and punched designs, whic…

A late early-medieval copper-alloy strap-distributor, with one surviving copper alloy-strap attachment loop. The distributor is circular with three sub-circular perforations. All edges are rounded. The obverse is slightly convex and the reverse is likewise concave. The obverse is decorated with raised lines between the perforations. The surviving attachment is crudely made from a cast strip of copper alloy that was bent around through one of the holes; at the ends, the strip is joined by a small copper alloy rivet; the reverse of the attachment seems to have a raised line and punched …

The body of the fitting is relatively flat with a sub-rectangular cross-section; whereas the hook is sub-triangular (D shaped). The hooked terminal has been formed by bending the upper part of the fitting back upon itself to form a U shaped hook. This hook is undecorated and …

A medieval circa 14th century copper-alloy bar mount. This mount has an oval shaped lobe in its centre and two smaller rounded terminal lobes. It measures 17mm in length and 9mm in width at its widest point. The central lobe is rounded on its front face and flat on its back face, it is also solid. The two terminal lobes have in situ copper-alloy rivets through their centres, which would have originally have attached this mount to a leather strap or belt of some kind.

A copper-alloy strap fitting. The fitting consists of a single loop, which is D-shaped. On the flat side of the loop is a projection, 3 mm long, circular in section, and 1.5 mm in diameter. This presumably attached the loop to an object, possibly a small casket or other light item of furniture. The object is likely to be medieval to post-medieval in date.

Copper alloy strap fitting, possibly from a harness. The fitting consists of a half-round sectioned shank, with a sub-rectangular loop at one terminal. The opposite half of the shank has a thickened, ribbed section, with two copper alloy rivets through it. The rust-red patina of the copper alloy is suggestive of an 11th century date for this object.
