Object type: FIGURINE
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Milton Keynes
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A worn and corroded solid copper alloy figurine, possibly representing Diana. She has one arm raised and the other resting on her hip. The hands are not clearly modelled. There are no visible facial features, although the hair is discernable at the back in the form of a bun. The figure is wearing a garment gathered and 'bloused out' over a belt. The figure is broken off at the hem of the garment. The base garment has the scars where the two legs have sheered off, probably the weakest point of the figure

A copper alloy knife handle terminal, consisting of four lobes divided by an incised cross. The top lobe has been neatly perforated but the top of the hole is damaged. Cast copper-alloy double-oval buckle. The frame has a small lateral ridge at the point where the bar joins it. The pin is copper alloy rather than iron, as is sometimes the case. There does not appear to be any sign of surface treatment (tinning for instance). Similar buckles were found in London excavations and are dated to late 12th to 13th centuries (Egan & Pritchard 1991)

Part of a copper alloy Roman 'military' buckle. The buckle would have been made up of a separate frame, pin and belt plate held together by a hinge pin but only part of the frame survives. The frame curves round to an involuted terminal and has oblique notches cut along the outer edge. Below the terminal is a hinge ring 5mm across.

Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Milton Keynes
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy, two-piece strap-end. The strap end consists of a cast front plate, with the decorative terminal riveted to a sheet back plate. While the main part of the strap end is undecorated the terminal has diagonal grooves cut in it in an abstract design. This type of strap-end often has a terminal in the form of a kings head but this example looked more like a grotesque face. Two rivets could just be seen on the front of the strap end. Strap ends of this type found in London excavations (Egan & Pritchard 1991)have been dated to mid 14th to 15th centuries.
