The object is a rectangular copper-alloy cast mount with a convex surface and hollow inside. The surface is decorated with an inlay of stripes of blue and red enamel. The stripes do not seem to appear in any particular pattern. The concave back is hollow except for a centrally placed short stud which was most probably meant to be pushed into the leather of a belt or a broad strap. The object is here described as a Romano-British mount, because of the shape and the red/blue enamel inlay; however, no immediate parallels could be found so far.

Small fragment of a Celtic style face made from copper alloy. The face is broken around the edges and at the neck. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The front surface is very slightly domed and the features are crude; almond shaped eyes, a triangular nose, and a simple oval mouth. At the neck there is a line of three raised pellets. The face looks too crude to be part of a pilgrims badge therefore the date of this object is unclear. The face weighs 3.91g and measures 22.55mm in length, 16.19mm in width and 3.88mm in thickness.

Crocodiles did sometimes appear on mosaics during the Roman period although no parallels for this mount have been found. The reverse of the mount is flat and undecorated and there is a single sub-circular stud set on the tail of the beast. The mount weighs 10.96g and measures 39.36mm in length, 18.…
