An incomplete copper-alloy buckle, now consisting of an oval shaped frame and fragment of an integral cast forked spacer, the pin also remains in situ. The oval frame measures 21mm by 15mm, in size it has a projecting lip in the centre of its outer edge. The fragment of forked spacer is 7mm in length and 14mm in width it has a pin slot. The pin is attached via an open loop, it is copper-alloy, tapers to a point and has a transverse ridge where the loop joins the shaft. A copper-alloy folded sheet buckle plate of medieval circa 14th century date. Rectangular in shape measuring 37mm in width and 18mm in length. It has been recessed to accomodate the missing frame and has a rectangular pin slot. It has three parallel copper-alloy rivets through its centre. On the front face traces of a double incised border groove can be seen.

A complete copper-alloy probable buckle pin, of medieval circa 14th-15th century date. Measuring 25mm in length and 3mm in width, it has a square cross-section, it is 3mm in thickness. It has an open loop and a transverse ridge where the loop meets the shaft, the shaft tapers to a point.

A copper alloy buckle with moulded scallops either side of the position where the bar meets the frame. these are separated by engraved lines in the form of an outward looking 'Vs' but with the arms slightly seperate. At the mid point of the short sides the inner edge of the frame come to a point. No evidence of surface treatment was seen

A complete cast copper-alloy single loop D-shaped buckle. The buckle has a offset and narrowed strap bar with a copper-alloy sheet pin looped around it. Both the pin and frame have traces of tinning. The length is 24.1mm, the width is 15.9mm and the weight is 4.74g.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy late roman belt buckle of Hawkes and Dunning Type IB [1961, P45). The D-shaped frame has very stylised dolphins with four bands of mouldings for the jaws. The crests of the dolphins have been developed into outward facing horse-heads. The horses features are not defined other than lightly notched manes. The pin is missing. The length is 20.1mm, the width is 24.8mm and the weight is 5.83g. A similar parallel is in Hawkes and Dunning, 1961, P46, Fig.16 No.e.

The object is a fragment of a Medieval oval shaped buckle frame. The fragment is the apex of the loop where the pin tip usually rests. This example would also have had a roller on the loop, but this is now missing. Egan and Pritchard (Dress Accessories) illustrate similar examples dating to the 13th to 14th centuries. No. 317 is the most similar example illustrated. The fragment, where the roller would be situated is narrowed, and is oval shaped in section. The outer edge of the frame has cast decoration in the form of a notched lip with a transverse knop either side. The reverse of the buckle is flat and undecorated. The buckle weighs 1.86g and measures 16.72mm in length, 23.61mm in width and 3.05mm in thickness. A similar parallel can be seen in Ross Whitehead’s ‘Buckles 1250-1800’ p.22, No.90.

Cast copper alloy rectangular shoe buckle dating to the post medieval period. The frame has moulded decorated, the outer edges are incurved and inbetween there is a heart. Were the pin bar would have meet the frame there is moulded lozenge shape decoration. The pin bar and pin are both missing through there are remains of the iron pin in the whole in the frame of the buckle.

A cast copper alloy trapezoidal shoe buckle, with pin, pin bar and plate remaining dating to the post medieval period. The moulded pin rests frame which has a slight indication on both sides. The frame is simple with the only decoration being two grooved lines running around the outside and inside edge of the frame. The cast copper alloy anchor chape (plate) is incomplete but has a complete copper alloy pin. The plate has a makers mark I ADAMS.

Copper alloy trapezium shaped buckle dating to the Medieval period (1350-1400). The small buckle has an integral frame and was probably used as a spur buckle. The outer edge of the frame has a pin notch and the plate has a series of incised grooves decorating the front. There is a single central copper alloy rivet set just behind the pin hole. The fragment weighs 2.17g and measures 21.17mm in length, 17.56mm in width and 2.35mm in thickness.

Medieval copper alloy oval buckle frame with ornate outside edge, ?missing a buckle plate. The axis bar is narrowed and recessed. The arms are D-shaped in section and 2mm wide, widening where they meet to 5.5mm. Here there is a recess for the pin. Flanking this recess on either side are three grooves. The pin is wire and appears to be missing its tip. The metal is grey in colour. Weighs 2.12g. Measures 17x19mm (internal 10x15mm). 12th-14th century.

Copper alloy composite buckle dating to the medieval period (1300-1500). The buckle frame is rectangular with the pin remaining intact. The pin bar is narrowed and the rectangular buckle plate is a sheet wrapped around the pin bar and secured in place around the strap with two copper alloy circular rivets. The plate is not complete on the reverse of the buckle but has broken away around the rivet fittings.
