The brooch is a Colchester Two-Piece brooch, a Trumpet type. It has been made from cast copper alloy. Trumpet type brooches date to the mid first to second century. Hattatt illustrates a similar brooch in Brooches of Antiquity, No. 959.
The bow head and wings are incorporated together. In plan the bow head is a horizontal oval. On the reverse there is a sub oval shaped hollow. The brooch is a Colchester One-Piece brooch, made from cast copper alloy. These brooches date to the early first century. Hattatt illustrates a similar brooch in Iron Age and Roman Brooches, No. 250.
The wings are just a horizontal rectangular band which is decorated on the external surface with vertical ribbing. On the reverse of the wings , integral to the lower edge a oval section wire protrudes which coils forming the spring. The spring is formed by seven complete coils. The brooch is a Roman fibula, but as only the catchplate remains, the brooch type cannot be determined.
The catch plate is triangular in section. The vertical edge, which would have been integral to the bow is abraded, and the bow is missing. This is not a recent break. The opposite obliquely angled edge has a 'U' shape to catch the pin.
The surface of the catchplate has a well developed mid green patina. It weighs 0.8g, and measures 10.5mm wide and 16.6mm long.

Foot fragment from a great square headed brooch. The breaks are well patinated and worn. The brooch has a triangular foot with an undecorated rectangular panel below. The triangular panel contains a gilded chip carved motif. This brooch is comparable to other brooches from Hines group XXI (p156, fig. 79, fig 80), which contain hybrid square headed and florid cruciform brooches which are sufficiently similar and clearly related to constitute a formally recognised group.

A Roman copper alloy fragment of a trumpet-headed brooch (AD70-200). The head is expanded with a perforated lug on the reverse to secure the axis bar. The axis bar, one turn of the spring, and part of the pin remain. There head is undecorated. Pale green patina

Copper alloy enamelled millefiori disc brooch. The brooch is a flat ring with a recessed central band containing a worn enamelled millefiori decoration. The decoration appears to consists of alternating bands of blue white and red enamel. Around the outer edge are six evenly spaced integral circular lugs, each decorated with a single central ring and dot motif. There is a simple hinge on the reverse which holds a broken copper alloy pin. Catchplate intact.

The wing terminals are decorated with a single transverse band. The bow is wide and flat at the top, and tapers to a pointed collared foot. On the face of the bow is a moulded raised triangle enclosed by a border of hash marks. Catchplate intact.

Incomplete copper alloy headstud brooch. Only the upper part of the brooch remains. Short rectangular wings with a semi-cylindrical hinge cover behind. Broken suspension loop above. There are two deep vertical grooves on the front of each wing. The bow is rectangular in cross-section and is slightly hollowed under the head. There is a moulded raised headstud on the upper side of the bow containing a cross. The bow face is very worn, however there is a central vertical ridge running its length, with a worn decorative chevroned panel to either side.

Incomplete corroded ?cast copper alloy bow brooch of probable Early Roman date (AD 43 - AD 200). Parts of the cylinder, the whole of the spring mechanism and pin and most of the catch-plate are missing. The breaks are old. Length 33mm, width of cylinder 17.3mm. Weight 4.09g.
The cylinder, when complete, almost fully enclosed the spring coil. There would have been a horizontal slot at the rear through which the pin extended. This type of spring mechanism probably did not possess an axial bar.

A complete cast copper alloy annular brooch (diameter: 28.7mm; thickness: 5.8mm; weight: 4.65g) with copper alloy pin still attached, which is looped a narrow but deep constriction along the frame. The pin is slightly bent to one side and tapers to at a rounded point at the other end, where is no obvious indentation to support the end around the frame. Cast copper alloy rosette keyhole brooch, hinged variant. The headplate of the brooch is bent backward, and the copper alloy pin has become detached from the hinge, although the pin is present.The circular central plate of the brooch has a central perforation for the attachment of a front plate, which is missing. The subtriangular footplate is decorated with two faint bands of short incised transverse lines, which run parallel to eachother down the length of the foot. There is a small catchplate on the reverse of the foot. Similar to no. 632 in Hattatt 2000.

Complete and very corroded copper alloy annular brooch of Late Medieval or Early Post Medieval date (AD 1400 – AD 1600). Length 16mm, width 12mm and less than 1.0mm thick. Weight 0.59g.
The oval frame has a width of about 2.5mm and is decorated with four semi-circular grooves. It has a constriction for the pin, the loop of which fully encloses the bar. The pin appears to be made of flat copper alloy wire and may have a slight swelling at the junction of the loop and the shaft. Anglo-Saxon Copper alloy brooch, 30mm long, 17mm wide and 2.5mm thick. The brooch weighs 4.49grams and has a green patina. It represents the central portion of a cruciform or small long brooch. The brooch is largely flat and is decorated with incised cup and ring marks, at least three can be seen. One end has a sharp angle where the bow would emerge but the other edges are very fragmentary with no clue to their shape. The reverse has the remains of a loop which is surrounded by iron corrosion.

The wings are undecorated except for a single rib at the ends. The high arched bow vertical rib running down the centre and tapers to a point at the foot. The incomplete catchplate has a length of 20.3mm and a width of 10.4mm.The brooch has a brown patina and is slightly corroded on the edges. The length of the brooch is 47.0mm, the width is 33.5mm and the 12.52g.
