Short cross silver penny of John, probably of class 5C. Class C coins under John are dated to circa 1204-1209AD. The obverse of the coin is worn, partially obscuring the bust and legend. The front facing bust has two curls to either side and is surrounded by the legend hENRICVS REX. The reverse depicts a voided short cross with quatrefoils in each angle. The obverse legend ROBERD CANTE relates to the moneyer Roberd from the Canterbury mint. The coin was struck in silver and has a dull grey patina. It is 18.35mm in diameter, 0.79mm thick and weighs 1.2 grams.
