An incomplete cast copper alloy harness strap fitting dating to the Modern period (c. AD 1910-1930). An A-shaped buckle with a bar across the bottom. The artefact is slight worn but in a fair condition, with a dark green patina. These types of strap fitting are often mistaken for Medieval harness fittings but are actually more modern in date. They were used to provide a permanent dee-loop on the side of a leather strap with the straight section sewn into the line of the leather strap creating a tee piece. Overall dimensions are as follows: length: 32.2mm; width: 43mm; thickness: …

A cast copper alloy military badge of The Royal Regiment of Artillery dating from either World War I or World War II. The badge depicts the name 'UBIQUE'. Discussion: kindly contributed by Mr Peter Hart. These artillery cap and collar badges are similar to the Royal Engineer’s collar badges which have two extra flames emerging from the bomb. The bomb badge was used by the Royal Regiment of Artillery in the beret when it was found that the traditional gun badge was too ungainly. See Kipling & King, No: 1935 Reference: Kipling A & King H, 2010, Head-dress Badges of the Brit…

This cast copper-alloy object has a short cylindrical stem or handle with a saucer-shaped receptacle at one end. It looks very like a scoop from a seed drill, but is in fact a shelf-support from a late 19th- or early 20th-century bookcase or similar piece of furniture. The stem is complete but very short, and would have fitted snugly into a drilled hole in the wall of the bookcase; the dished disc would have fitted into a shallowly drilled hole on the underside of the shelf.

The obverse is slightly convex in both planes and decorated with a central longitudinal line of punched triangles flanked on either side by a beaded line, which are in turn flanked by groups of five punched lines. This decoration appears to be hand-applied. The centre of the reverse, in between the projections, is flat. This may be a late medieval-early post medieval strap mount. Sheet copper alloy snake’s head strap end with punched detail on upper sheet and then soldered onto lower sheet which is plain, making it hollow within to take a leather strap. Likely to have been imported in relatively modern times from the East where the snake motif is more prevalent. The only comparable example that the recorder can find is as a terminal to an armlet or arm band made from sheet brass from Chinese Turkestan illustrated in Gerlach (1971) on page 76, Plate 38 No.19. 19th-20th century

A "modern" copper-alloy Falus from Morocco. The obverse shows a six pointed star with a pellet at the centre and a border consisting of several closely-spaced lines. The image on the reverse is unclear but probably includes a religious staff. The Hebrew date (AH) 1271 is given. This places the coin in the reign of Abd-Al-Rahman and equates to the year 1854 AD. The reverse design sits within a double raised border. The coin is slightly bent and worn. It measures 27.9mm diameter by 2.2mm thick and weighs 8.83g.
