A late Iron Age to early Roman copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch. The brooch consists of a long bow (58 mm in length) which would have originally bowed in a continuous curve, although it is now damaged and bent out of shape. The wings of the brooch are 14 mm wide. The head of the brooch would have originally had an integral sping and over-head chord hook. However the chord hook is broken and the spring, which would have been located under the rear of the chord hook, is missing. Very little of the brooch's catch plate remains. The brooch is similar to an example illustrated in Ha…

Possible Iron age copper alloy strap fitting, 74mm long, 47mm wide and 3.5mm thick. The object is incomplete and has a brown patina. It consists of two pieces of curved metal, which when complete probably formed circles. The metal has D shaped section and is 8mm wide and 3.5mm thick. Where these two pieces join together there is a 'coffee bean' shaped motif, a domed oval with a straight line cut along the centre of its length, 10mm long. Where the two pieces curve to form circles the object has been 'braced' by a bar, 35mm long and 4mm thick, which has a hollow centre, to allow straps…

A fragment of a cast copper-alloy unidentified object, incomplete due to old breaks. This fragment is curvilinear and was presumably roughly circular in plan when complete with a central circular perforation. It measures 26mm in length and 14mm in width, it is 15mm in thickness. It is likely to have measured c30mm in external diameter when complete with a central perforation of c20mm. It has a roughly triangular cross-section, it would have been biconical in shape. There is a raised moulded ridge around the edge of the central perforation. The original function of this object is …
