Medieval incomplete belt fitting, very corroded, possibly a sword hanger, or perhaps used on harness, large rectangular loop, designed to accommodate a strap or belt, with a larger open loop projecting from base to almost complete a circle and touch the front of the vertical loop, whereupon it projects vertically upwards and is broken. There is a integrally-cast shield on the upper face of the larger loop bearing an incised cross. Cf. examples from Quidenham (HER 34977) and Cawston (HER 19522).
