Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A plain, tinned copper-alloy buckle. The buckle is double looped and trapezoidal in shape. There are lobed protrusions at either end of the bar. The outside edge of the buckle is bevelled. Otherwise complete, the buckle’s pin is missing. The buckle is post-medieval and dates from around 1620 to 1680. Whilst undecorated, in form the buckle is similar to an example illustrated in Whitehead (1996, page 82; fig. 514). In profile one end of the buckle appears raised, perhaps due to plough damage.

Object type: BUTTON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A circular copper-alloy button. There is a shallow concave depression in the back of the button. In the centre of this depression the loop (now largely missing following an old break) begins. The front of the button is flat in profile and features a incised device. The device consists of a shield with diagonal cross surmounted by a five-pointed crown with small circles at each of the terminal points. The shield rests on two fronds which interlock at its base. The flat profile of the button, with its design, suggest a late seventeenth to early eighteenth century date.

Drop-shaped Roman button and loop fastener of Wild Class III. It has an obverse 'eye' design, with circular inner edge tapering to pointed outer edge. A hemisphere in relief forms the 'iris' of the eye (9.7mm in diameter) and contains a smaller circle (the 'pupil'). These concentric circles sit within a horseshoe-shaped ridge with sunken circular terminals. Between this ridge and the pointed outer edge is a thick longitudinal ridge in relief. Transverse ribs between the horseshoe-shaped ridge and the edge serve to create eight cells, three of which contain traces of red enamel. The re…

A cast copper-alloy open, T-shaped buckle. The top of the T is a rectangular frame with grooved pin rest. The narrower stem is 7.6mm wide and terminates with a raised band and loop, 9.5mm in width and now incomplete following an old break. There is a copper-alloy pin hinged within the narrower element, held in place by a separate copper-alloy bar through the frame of the buckle, which thickens slightly to accommodate it. The pin (22.1mm in length) follows the shape of the frame until it reaches the hole, where its shaft shifts alignment before tapering to a point. Overall length 35.4 …

A conical copper-alloy clapper bell. The bell terminates in an integral ovoid suspension loop. The suspension loop is 10.5mm in length and has a 'skirt' extending a further 4.2mm down the bell. There is a transverse ridge just above the base of the bell. The clapper is now missing.
