Four joing lower body and base sherds of wheel-thrown reduced greyware Roman pottery. The vessel has a pedastel base, probably a jar. The fabric is slightly sandy to the touch with small pores for missing organic inclusions. There are also infrequent small white inclusions, possibly calcite grit. One sherd is a large portion of the body and base of the vessel, two fragments are base sherds and the remaining sherd is a body fragment. It is similar to examples from Skeleton Green, Herts (Partridge 1981, 58 fig 23). The diameter of the base is 62 mm.

A rim sherd from a pottery vessel, probably late medieval in date. The pottery is wheel thrown, fine and is of an orange fabric with few inclusions. Measurement of the curvature of the rim indicates that the vessel would have been small, with a diameter of around 8 cm. It would therefore have been a small cup or bowl.

A handle from a Roman Amphora. The rest of the vessel is missing. The large handle is constructed from a sandy fabric with gritty inclusions. There is a stamp at the top left of the handle, much of which is illegible. However, the letters ...IMI ...IO in two lines are just visible. The chunky nature of the handle, together with its dramatic curve suggests that it may be a Dressel 20 type, and if so it would date from around 50 to 250 AD. Such vessels were often used to transport olive oil and were often stamped with the name of the owner of the estate who produced such oil.

A worn and incomplete clay loom weight dating to the Roman or early-medieval periods. It would have been attached to threads on a loom to keep them hanging straight. The weight is of a dusty orange colour. On both faces there is a raised border around its slightly off-centre circular perforation. The loom weight has suffered substantial losses around its circumference as a result of old damage.

A worn rim sherd from a wheel made Roman food preparation bowl, or mortarium, dating to the second half of the 'Roman presence' in Britain. The fabric has a pale sandy hue and appears to be grog tempered. On the internal face some of the dark grits included to aid grinding can be seen. It features four ridges. The shallow curvature of the rim suggests that the complete mortarium would have been a large vessel with a diameter of over 500mm at the ridge. The fabric may possibly be Nene Valley white ware, making it a local product. The heavy rim is of the hammer headed type, suggestin…

The fabric may possibly be Nene Valley white ware, making it a local product. On the internal face some of the dark grits can be seen; these were included to aid grinding. The heavy rim is of the hammer headed type, suggesting a 3rd or 4th century date for this sherd (cf. Laing 2003, 65; fig. 92, ref. 10). It features five ridges in total. The diameter of the complete vessel would have been approximately …
