Object type: HAMMER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Late Neoloithic? stone hammer or wedge, 147mm long, 57mm wide and 51mm thick. The object is an orangey brown colour and is roughly rectangular in section, with rounded edges. It tapers to a point on two sides, down to 47mm wide and 22mm thick, which forms a wedge shape. This end has some damage and is missing its original edge. The wide end is also missing part of its surface, but overall has a lighter colour and is worn. The object could be an unfinished hammer (missing the hole for the shaft) or it could be a wedge for separating trees into planks which has lost its sharp edge.
