Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Medieval incomplete lead ampulla, broken and flattened, upper part missing, elaborate crown above on one side on field of lozengiform cross-hatching, small plain cross on other side, 33 x (at least) 38mm. The crown is often found on ampullae in combination with a range of other motifs for Our Lady, Queen of Heaven. Shown on its own here it may represent the golden crown given by Henry III and worn by the statue of Our Lady at Walsingham (see note in Spencer 1980, 16-7, no.40).

A barbed and tanged flint arrowhead with a recent break on the tang exposing a medium-dark grey flint. Another small 'recent' chip occurs on one side of the arrowhead. A small part of the tip is also missing but this is an ancient (patinated) break. The arrowhead is patinated blue white but curiously only over part of the surface. Interestingly the areas of unpatinated surface, which are black, appear to be limited to the central and base areas of the arrowhead and suggest a possible haft/adhesive mark. Such an occurrance is extremely rare; Green (1980) cited only 15 examples of f…

A bronze collared tracer or awl of late Bronze Age date. This example is large and in a form similar to tanged and collared leather-working knives (though lacking the larger blade). It measures 109mm in length and has a collar width of 14mm, and a chisel end width of 4.5mm. One half has a hexagonal cross-section and has lost its original pointed tip, the break is old and patinated. The other half of the stem has a rectangular cross-section leading to a slightly concave chisel end which is relatively blunt/worn. It is not clear if this was originally a double-ended tool, o…
