A fragment of a medieval enamelled copper-alloy mount from a coffret (chest). The part has two curved arms forming a 'V' shape. In the section between the arms there is a circular rivet hole for attachment; on one side of this is a small triangular field of blue enamel and on the other a tiny oval field of blue enamel. The object is flat with an undecorated reverse. The blue enamelling runs down each arm in three stripes (a wider stripe between two thin stripes) but does not run right up to the break. Object type: HARNESS FITTING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy fitting, possibly from a harness. The object is likely to be medieval. The fitting has a circular flat plate attached to a hinged arm with a small loop at the end. The fitting appears to have functioned as some sort of swivel as both the arm and terminal are pierced. The front of the plate is decorated with a crude cross with a dot in each quadrant (three of these dots are blocked but the fourth is a hole). On the reverse there is some iron staining. The object weighs 2.54g and measures 27.7mm in length, 11.5mm in width and 5.2mm in thickness.

Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN

Copper alloy Roman zoomorphic brooch in the form of a seated greyhound. The overall form of the brooch is reminiscent of a Romano-British Dragonesque booch. The brooch is in good condition and remains intact apart from the pin on the reverse. The brooch is finely cast and the surface has been tinned to give a silver finish. The tinning covers the whole front surface and extends onto the rim of the hollow cast back. The form of the dog is well-observed and slightly stylised with an enlarged single eye on the head and a curved body resting on muscular haunches. The legs are long and sle…
