Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Published
Complete copper alloy finger ring of unknown date. The hoop is deformed and sub-oval rather than circular in shape, consequently, the external diameter cannot be accurately measured. However, the diameter would have been approximately 18mm. The width of the hoop varies slightly but is about 4.5mm. The thickness is about 0.5mm. Weight 1.66g.
The hoop is decorated on the outer surface with regularly spaced curvilinear grooves. The ring is in fair condition and has a dark green patina with small areas of bright green corrosion deposits.

Complete prehistoric flint implement, possibly a large scraper. Date unknown. Length 101mm, width 112mm and 27mm thick. Weight 288g.
The scraper is sub-triangular in plan and has been produced on a naturally fractured “lump”. The ventral surface is probably a natural fracture and the lump has been utilised and formed into a large scraper. The dorsal surface is mainly occupied by cortex which is “pitted”. The pitting is probably the result of the implement having been used as a hammer. All three edges have been retouched and the removals are abrupt/crossed abrupt, short and sca…

Object type: GRAIN RUBBER
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Published
Complete sandstone grain rubber of unknown date. Length 77mm, diameter 93mm. Weight 966g.
The rubber is sub-spheroidal in form and sub-circular in plan and the underside is slightly convex. Consequently, it could be described as being dome-shaped. The shape has probably been achieved by pecking and then finished by grinding. A large indentation on the curved side has peck marks on its surfaces. Therefore, this indented feature appears to have been deliberately created and is not an accidental break. The purpose of the indentation was probably to enable the rubber to be held comfortably…

Workflow stage: Published
Incomplete cast teardrop-shaped lead weight of unknown date. Length 47mm, maximum diameter 32mm. Weight 253.18g. (8.929 ounces).
The weight has a central longitudinal circular perforation which is about 3.5mm in diameter. The perforation probably accommodated a suspension loop at the top and perhaps a hook at the bottom to suspend another weight. This weight may have been associated with a steelyard. Although the weight is in fair condition, the surface has many old scuffs, scratches and indentations over which there is a grey/brown coloured patina.

Cast lead circular weight of Unknown date. Diameter 26.5mm and 6.2mm thick. Weight 30.04g. (1.059 ounces).
The weight is circular in plan and in the form of a flat disc with convex edges. At the centre is a sub-circular perforation , about 5mm in daimeter. The rim of the perforation on each face is slightly raised and parts are burred over towards the opening. This is probably the remains of unfettled casting sprue. The faces of the perforation appear not to be worn. The surfaces have many indentations which appear to have been created by accident rather than design. Although the weigh…

Incomplete cast copper alloy object of Unknown date. Length 59.4mm, maximum width 27mm and maximum thickness 6.2mm. Weight 31.77g.
One face is moulded and the opposite face is flat and plain. The moulded face, in plan, resembles an incomplete spearhead with old breaks at the pointed (sharper end) and also at the “tang” end. It has a longitudinal raised mid-rib which tapers from the base of the “blade” towards the broken tip. On either side of the mid-rib, midway between the rib and the outer edge, is a groove.
