Romano-British Plate brooch, oval, broken outer edge, sexfoil comprising circular central cell containing greenish decayed remains of enamelling, radiating foils and border of zig-zag line between concentric line and outside edge, remains of orange/red enamelling. Remains of double pin-lug on reverse, most of other lug for catch-plate missing. 32 x 34mm. 2nd century AD.

Medieval fragment very probably from a processional cross, broken and distorted, part of heavily-cast concave-sided circular frame (diameter 60mm) with offset flange on inside edge and projecting elaborate openwork elaborate quatrefoil, each foil with circular perforation and elongated projecting lobe between foils on three outer edges, cracked and bent around onto side. The frame is pierced by a single copper alloy rivet with burred-over head. The quatrefoil has engraved linear decoration on both sides. 15th century. Late Medieval Fragment of bell, with peg-argent (45 x 26mm), but without crown-staple from which a clapper would perhaps have been hung. The surviving part of the upper surface has engraved decoration bordering the break. This break runs along the outer engraved line that may coincide with the change of angle at the shoulder (approx.diam.70mm at break). The decoration comprises two concentric lines containing oblique lines forming chevrons within which are alternating horizontal lines and inverted chevrons. Red and blue enamel and tiny speck of gilding survive. Blazon: Barry of six Or and Azure a label Gules. Possibly for Henry de PEMBRIDGE, of West Hyde, Beds, living in 1300. Henry may be the individual of the same name who forfeited his lands for rebellion, 1323 (Brault (1997) vol.2, 336). Late 13th-14th century.

Medieval Composite buckle, oval frame with notched projecting triangular lip and integral forked spacer with narrowed bar, pin missing. The arms of the forked spacer have been cut-down and a cut sheet plate folded around on front and back with broad slot at attachment edge, containing an iron spindle around which is folded a fragment of cut copper alloy sheet. This secondary modification appears to have replaced the rigid plate with a hinged one, 27 x 22mm. Cf. Dress Accessories (1991), figs.48-9. Second half of 14th-early 15th century.
