Roman cast copper alloy bow and fantail brooch, 1st-2nd century. Spring and pin missing. Undecorated wings. There appears to be a wide shallow groove on the upper part of the bow leading down to an expanded circular section with central circular depression and rounded knops (with grooved collars) on either side. The rest of the brooch is missing. Length 26.88mm, width (wings) 20.96mm, width (boss on bow) 19.30mm, thickness 9.98mm, weight 8.19g. A similar brooch is published in Hattatt's 'Visual Catalogue' (2000, Oxbow) p315, no.819.

Cast copper alloy Roman finger ring fragment, bezel and shoulders only. The large oval bezel is hollowed out with a hole with a raised collar around it placed off-centre. This hole appears to go right through to the back of the bezel although this is not certain, as it is filled with something which appears to have a more pastey consistency than soil. The shoulders taper to the hoop, which is broken off. Dark green patina with some areas of orange-brown corrosion. Length 11.98mm, width (shoulder to shoulder) 21.30mm, width (bezel) 16.76mm, thickness (at bezel) 4.90mm, weight 11.54g.

Medieval flat pointed-oval lead seal matrix dating to the 13th century. The seal has a personal inscription reading: + SIG ' AVINE (seal of Avine). Avine was a popular woman's name in the medieval period and survives in modern times as 'Aveline'. It derives from the Latin 'avis' meaning bird. Normally medieval seals have a central motif but unfortunately this is a worn example and the circular perforation in the centre (which is likely to be a later addition) obliterates what we might be able to see of the motif.
