Identification of this pair of artefacts is prejudiced by factors noted below. They were presumably cast in copper-alloy. They are cordate with a protrusion at the narrow end which is broadly trefoil in shape. In the side elements of the trefoil are circular perforations either for suspension as a pendant or for suspending further, lost elements in their capacity as mounts. It is thought that they are likely to be 18th-century harness mounts, of a type illustrated in Bailey (1995, 88; ref. 32).

A corroded cast copper-alloy mount dating to the post-medieval period, with gold-coloured patina remaining in places. This mount takes the elaborate form of a scallop shell with lower trefoil protrusion and upper moulded protrusion. The scallop is divided into seven section through grooving - three either side of a larger central section. The trefoil protrudes from below the central section. On its upper side the central section joins a oval moulding above which is a further trio of oval mouldings whose sizes decrease sizes towards the terminal. The reverse is concave and hollow, a…

A worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval mount. The mount is asymmetrical, terminating in a broadly trefoil head. Below this is a sub-triangular element, with a rectangular element below this. The artefact has been broken following old damage below the rectangular element. On the back of the object are a pair of pointed lugs: one at the rear of the lower part of the trefoil, the other at the junction of the triangular and rectangular elements. The lugs would have bent outwards; the lug on the back of the trefoil has been broken off at the object's body. The mount has had…

A fragment from a possible Roman mount, possibly from an item of furniture such as a box or casket. The mount is circular with a domed front and a flat reverse. It is incomplete but measures around 14.2 mm in diameter. It is impossible to say with any certainty that this is indeed such an artefact, though similar artefacts are illustrated in Crummy (1983, 87; 91). The patina on the object also suggests a Roman date.

A slightly worn cast copper-alloy mount. The mount is flat lozengiform in shape with a pair of opposed circular perforations in the vertices. The patina suggests that this object is of a certain antiquity, although whether it is Roman or medieval in date is difficult to say. Similarly, it is hard to say whether this was a dress fitting or a furniture mount, for example from a box.

Medieval copper alloy belt mount, 23mm long and 17mm wide. The object is in a fair condition, with a damaged surface and a green patina, and weighs 2.09 grams. The object is 'diamond' shaped and is slightly domed. It is missing most of its original surface, but appears to have had a lattice work decoration contained within a border with a central circular motif. The reverse has traces of a rectangular sectioned iron rivet.

A worn and scratched copper-alloy sexfoil mount probably dating to the medieval period. Domed and made from sheet metal, this mount is sexfoil in shape, the faces marked out by grooves on the obverse. The shape appears to have been stamped out, the perimeter having subsequently lost its integrity in places. The button-like pellet in the centre of the dome is perhaps indicative of an unfinished example, as with a mount illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 189; ref. 1004) which also lacks a rivet hole. An almost identical mount found close by has also been recorded on this databa…

A worn cast copper-alloy artefact, possibly a hinged mount of medieval date. The object is a flat triangle with a sub-triangular element at the narrow end (1.1mm). At the wider end opposite (8.9mm) a central slot has been cut and the two elements curved round to house an axis bar. Elements of this bar may survive within. The object is corroded and bent around its centre at an angle of approximately thirty degrees to the horizontal.

A worn cast copper-alloy mount, probably dating to the Roman period. The object is conical, with a large circular border and a significant knob at the apex. The centre of the reverse is slightly concave, either side of which is a lug of rectangular section, presumably for attachment. Whether this object was attached to an item of furniture or an article such as a horse harness is uncertain. The attribution of a Roman date is based upon the artefact's patina as well as the large amount of Roman material found in the vicinity.

A conical cast copper-alloy mount probably of the medieval period. The artefact is worn and has a patina consisting of most shades of green. There is a slightly off-centre rod emerging from the reverse, 2.7mm in diameter; it is broken after a couple of millimetres and might have been used as a means of attachment.

A worn copper-alloy mount. The mount is of an irregular sub-rectangular shape. It features eight sub-circular perforations made by crudely puncturing through the reverse. These holes are located along the long edges of the object; the spaces between them are similarly irregular. There is a particularly large hole in one of the corners. The object has had its ends bent up on the obverse. The obverse is also tinned but is otherwise undecorated. As this artefact was found in a location which has yielded large numbers of medieval artefacts a medieval date is duly proposed.

A very worn and incomplete cast lead object, probably of the medieval period: either a mount or a button. On the reverse is evidence of a casting seam and a lug - either a loop or a spike. The obverse face features a central raised pellet which is surrounded on the extant areas by five border pellets all in varying states of completeness. Most of the losses have been suffered around the edges.

A worn cast copper-alloy mount of the post-medieval period. In form the mount consists of two symmetrical, rounded lobes divided by a transverse ridge. There is a pair of integral pointed lugs on the reverse although both have been broken such that the majority of them has been lost. The mount is similar in form to an example illustrated in Read (2001, 36; ref. 310) which is dated to the seventeenth century.

A worn cast copper-alloy fragment probably dating to the medieval period. The artefact is curved with a straight terminal at one end and an irregular break at the other. The break is stepped, and it is difficult to say whether this somehow reflected the continuation of the object. On the obverse face the object is bordered around the curved edges. Within this are raised designs, possibly letters. Just before the break is what might represent an 'H'. Adjacent is a similar character whose serifs curve round and terminate with what appear to be fronds. With decoration only evident o…

A flat cast lead disc, probably a medieval mount. The object is decorated unifacially; the reverse is plain apart from a small area of white correction fluid which bears the finder’s number 424. The obverse face is slightly raised apart from a flatter border. It features a raised central line which does not reach the edges. Either side of the line is a five-pointed star with swirly arms. The artefact was found in an area from which has yielded a lot of medieval material.

A cast tin mount with integral rivet, probably from a medieval belt. The mount has knops on all four corners, although one of these has been largely abraded away. Raised diagonal lines join the corners and there is a raised central pellet at their junction. The object appears to have a beaded border; this has largely been worn. There is a small area of white correction fluid on the otherwise plain reverse which bears the finder’s number 89. This artefact bears similarities with a mount illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 198-199, ref. 1066) which dates to the thirteenth or …

A cast copper-alloy mount of probable post-medieval date. The mount is of flat quatrefoil form with a pair of integral pointed lugs that protrude from the reverse. One of the lugs has been broken, while the other bends round away from the centre of the mount. The visible obverse face is decorated with a central circular depression which is surrounded by four crescentic incisions mirroring the four leaves. Within each incised field is a further, shallow circular depression. Lobes protrude between the junctions of each leaf. This method of attachment using integral lugs is characte…

A worn and corroded cast iron mount. The mount is quatrilobe in form with a convex central boss. The boss is 22mm in diameter and features an off-centre circular perforation, probably for attachment. A worn and incomplete cast tin mount without rivet. The mount is sub-circular in shape having suffered losses. It is convex, reaching a maximum height of 4.4mm.
