A medieval English copper-alloy pictorial jetton dating to the late 13th or early 14th centuries. The jetton is slightly abraded around the edge and has lost integrity and split around weak points. It is an interesting example because the border and internal decoration departs from the more common pellet motif. Similar, although less diversely decorated examples can be found illustrated in Mitchiner (1988, 112; refs. 201-205).

A worn, incomplete and crudely rendered Flemish medieval copper-alloy jetton of the 'Rampant lion on shield' type. Struck in the 14th century during the reign of the count Louis II de Male (1346 - 84). According to Mitchener (1988, 251) these particular jettons were struck after the Battle of Crécy and in succession to issues bearing the dimidiated (halved) shield of his mother, Marguerite de France (c. 1350 AD). The artefact has been pierced in the past, perhaps for use as jewellery, and part of the fabric of the jetton has been abraded away around this circular perforation. Further…

A probable copper-alloy Medieval jetton which has been silvered, possibly for use as coinage. The obverse bears a bust, probably of Edward I. The reverse bears a central cross with flaring arms. There appears to be an inscription on both obverse and reverse, which is unusual for Edwardian sterling type jettons which usually bear decorative borders on the obverse. The obverse legend is very difficult to make out as a result of wear and a loss of the silvering, but the possible letters ARONS... can be discerened. What remains of the reverse legend appears to read ...MARE... If this is i…
