Upper plate notched at corners to form trefoils at all corners, with additional central notch in attachment end, pierced by copper alloy rivet at each corner and larger central perforation, 20 x 37mm.
Compare NMS-894C88, NMS-DBF206 SF6887. Composite hinged book clasps in Egan (1998 fig.214, no. 925) are dated to the 14th-15th century.
