Lead disc, possibly a mount, with relief decoration depicting lines or spokes radiating from a central domed boss. Possibly a post-med cloth seal - there are slight remains of a projection on one side. The back disc would have a raised rivet/dome to decure the front disc?

A cast silver oval mount of convex cross-section, with traces of gilding and niello. The decoration shows a symmetrical composition with a debased palmette between backwards-looking addorsed birds with raised wings meeting in the centre. There are traces of gilding as well as of niello remaining in some grooves. There are two patches of tin-lead solder on the back, suggesting that the object has been modified.. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence of the surface of the mount indicated a silver content of approximately 91%, with mercury gilding and niello. The piece is an examp…

Description: Cast, inverted pear-shaped, sub-oval object made from gilded silver. The openwork decoration shows a symmetrical composition with two birds flanking a stylised plant. The stylised plant is upside down, with its base emerging from the animal head which rests between the birds' heads; alternatively, the central stem and two pairs of branches can be read as a human body emerging from the animal head. The animal head at the top is sub-triangular and fox-like, with two small pointed ears projecting from the smooth curve of the top of the object. There is a double moulding at t…
