Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Neolithic worked flake knapped from light grey flint. The microlith resembles a leaf shape, however this appears to be due to later breaks, rather than intentional knapping of a crude leafshaped arrowhead. The ventral surface has several large ripples extending from the proximal end. The flake is 30mm long, 10mm wide at the proximal end, extending to 20mm before tapering to 6mm at the distal end.

Mesolithic or Neolithic flake retouched into a scraper. The ventral side is 90% covered by a cream-grey cortex, the 10% of exposed dark grey/black flint has been retouched to form a sharp edge. The scraper measures 38mm by 38mm at the widest points.

Probably a Mesolithic awl, knapped from light grey to white flint. The awl appears to have been made by reworking the distal end of a flake into a point. There is some scaring on the proximal end, with small ripples radiating out. The awl is 38mm long, 25mm wide at the proximal end tapering to 5mm at the distal end.

Lithic core of Mesolithic or Neolithic date. Flakes have been removed from the surface of the dark grey flint, leaving no remaining cortex. The surface of the flint is begining to form a brown patina. There is possible evidence of platform preparation however this is unclear from the photograph.

Knapped blade of Mesolithic date, with secondary working along the blade edge. There is a notch towards the distal end which was probably caused by modern plough damage as the break is not worn. The ventral surface has some ripples radiating from the proximal end. The flint has a orange-brown patina due to the levels of iron in the soil where is was discovered. The blade is 80mm in length, although the proximal end has a worn transverse break thus the blade would have been longer in antiquity. At the widest point, the blade is 30mm, and is 10mm thick.
