Possible early medieval Anglo Saxon spiral headed pin. Made from sheet copper aloy, folded lengthways so that the edges meet; one end tapers to a sharp point; the other end is split to form two arms, one of which is curled inwards, the other is broken off. Length 50.56mm, width (across shaft & broken head) 6.32mm, thickness across head 3.66mm, diameter of shaft 2.98mm, weight 1.64g.
Anglo Saxon spiral headed pins are usually made from wrought, rather than sheet, metal (see MacGregor & Bollick 1993, 'A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections' BAR 230, p188-9, no. 31.46 & 31.47).
