Two cast copper alloy rods, both with an attachment loop at each end. One measures 49.62mm long, 4.60mm wide, 4.18mm thick and weighs 4.44 grams. The other rod is 50.78mm long, 4.35mm wide, 4.38mm thick and weighs 5.24 grams. Despite the slight difference in size both rods are of the same form. They both have a circular cross section, which is widest in the centre, and narrows each end towards the attachment loop. Iron corrosion, from the remains of iron fittings, is present in each of the attachment loops. Both of the rods are worn with no traces of decoration. The artefacts have a du…

Anglo-Saxon cast copper alloy openwork stirrup terminal, dating to the later half of the 11th century. The terminal is of zoomorphic design and has a hollow back that would have contained the lower part of the stirrup. As the artefact has been identified from a photograph it is unclear whether this hollow contains traces of iron or lead solder which would have been used to attach the terminal to the stirrup. The terminal is in the form of a beasts head with prominant eyes, flared nostrils and a stub nose. The surface has a dull green patina with areas of the base metal colour showing …

Part of the headplate and bow of a cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon small square-headed brooch. The headplate has an inner rectangular section decorated with four rectangular 'blocks', all surrounded by a beaded border. The bow is framed by a raised beaded edge and has a relief midrib separating two raised zones. A single perforated lug on the reverse of the headplate acts as a hinge, and the corroded remains of the spring survive on this. Although incomplete, this brooch is probably an example of the Kentish-continental series of small square headed brooches (Parfitt and Brugmann 1997, …

Cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon button-type or small saucer brooch. The brooch has an upturned rim and catchplate and hinge on the reverse. The spring and part of the pin survives as a lump of iron corrosion adhering to the hinge. The front of the brooch has relief decoration in the form of four elongated 'S' shapes set around a central beaded circle and dot. In style this brooch could be considered a small saucer brooch, with decoration related to the running spiral series, although its overall form and size (diameter 20mm) also relate it to the button brooch series.
