Seven bronze objects recovered during a metal-detecting rally organised by Vectis Searchers on cultivated land in Yarmouth Parish, 14 December 2003. The finds were in ploughsoil at depths less than 25 cm. They were spread over an area measuring 7 x 3 metres. The seven pieces are in generally poor condition and five are fragments, probably having been broken recently. Two certain joins and one probable join mean that four, or a maximum of five objects are represented. Fragment of a gold bracelet of Late Bronze Age date (c. 1150 BC - c. 750 BC). Length 20mm, width 22mm and c. 0.5mm thick. Weight 3.53g. The fragment is a terminal of sheet gold which has been roughly flattened out. The terminal is oval in plan and adjoins a short remaining stretch of a broad band. At this end there is an old break. Undulations in the metal suggest that the band met the terminal in a strong curve; the original form can be reconstructed as a C-section band with an everted oval terminal.

The fragment is from the lower part of the blade, close to the cutting edge, of a socketed axe. The upper part of the fragment has an old break and this break has probably occured due to a casting flaw in the form of a central void. At the lower end of the fragment is another old break. However, a small lenth of the cutting edge, about 4mm in length, remains intact at this end. This surviving part of the cutting edge is rounded and blu…
