Object type: HARNESS MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy heraldic stud, probably of late 13th or 14th century date. The stud is shield shaped, with a straight top and sides curving to a point at the bottom. A small amount of green (Vert) enamel survives on the front of the object. In the centre of the shield is a chevron which would have contained enamel. The integral rivet projects from the rear and is sub-oval in cross-section. The object has a dark brown patina.
Griffiths (1989) states that smaller shield studs (20mm or less in height), similar to this example may have been attached to iron stirrups.

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire

A fragment of Early Medieval silver decorated with triangular punches each with a pellet in the centre. The fragment is sub rectangular, broken at each end and tapering. It may be a fragment of an armlet or finger ring, or possibly from a strap end. There are five longitudinal rows of punch marks, two rows overlapping. The fragment is curved. The object may represent hacksilver, but as it is broken rather than cut, this is not certain. Compare DENO-9F9344 (2010 T385).

An almost complete lead bag seal of post-medieval to modern date.
