Object type: RIVET
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Medieval or post-medieval sheet copper alloy folded rivet, probably a repair for a copper-alloy vessel. The rivet is made from a lozenge-shaped piece of sheet the ends of which have been folded in to meet in the middle and then back out. One end is missing due to a patinated break at the fold. It measures 21.5mm by 13.2mm by 4.3mm and weighs 1.77g. A similar rivet is illustrated in Egan's 'Medieval Household' (1998, p. 176, no. 489) and in Egan (2005,101) Fig: 87 suggesting a long date range of c. AD 1100-1700.

County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Medieval or post-medieval plain cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle frame. The frame has two oval loops with bevelled outer sides on the front which is echoed by inner bevelling on the back. The strap bar is narrowed with a triangular cross-section. It is 21.5mm long, 17.0mm wide and 2.6mm thick, it weighs 2.1 grams. It is likely that simple forms like this were in use by c.1350 (Egan and Pritchard 1993:22, 82-3, cf no.332), and they continued into the 17th century.

Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular unifaced token, dating from c. AD 1250-1800. Powell Type 14. The token has a raised design of an equal armed cross on the obverse and a flat, undecorated reverse. It measures 19.49 mm in diameter,2.46 mm thick and weighs 5.3 grams. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and those decorated with simple crosses could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD).

It has pairs of moulded collars at its top and its base with a spiral of circular pits in between. There is no evidence of a maker's mark but it is corroded. It is 15.9mm tall and, due to squashing, 23.4mm wide by 5.7mm thick; it weighs 3.27g.
