An incomplete wrought copper-alloy Iron Age/Roman La Tène III, Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the 1st century AD (max. H.: c. 17.5mm). At the head of this one-piece brooch type the spring has been truncated before any of the coils begin; the pin has also been lost as a result. Fragment of worked bone object measuring 40.94x13.39x10.99mm and weighing 6.39g. The bone is oval in cross-section with an internal measurement of 5.3x3.5mm. Both ends are broken, one across a drilled hole c.3mm in diameter. A further two complete holes, in alignment with the first, have also been drilled. The object is likely to be part of a handle and probably Roman in date. It is unlikely to be a whistle because of the small central hole. Cf. Allason-Jones and Miket (1984) no.2.51.
