Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Flintshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy object of uncertain function and date. The object is sub-circular in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The outer edges are jagged due to old breaks. One surface of the object is raised and rounded. The other surface irregular with a central circular depression. The depression is quite shallow and rough. Below the depression at the rounded end of the object are traces of gilding. Due to the fragmentary state of this object it is unclear what its function was although the gilding indicates that it may have had a decorative purpose.

County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of an unidentified cast copper alloy object. The fragment is a thin piece of metal, slightly domed, which appears to be from an item with regular circular cut outs. The piece has old breaks across the solid bits between the circle. It is 32.0mm long, 21.8mm wide, a minimum of 1.9 and a maximum of 2.9mm thick and weighs 5.50 grams.
The way it has broken has left a shape in some ways reminiscent of an animal however the 'head' and 'legs' each clearly end in old, irregular breaks. An indent near the end of one of the sections emphasises this efect as it looks like an eye but it …

A red material, which may be enamel, moulding clay or wax (although wax would be unlikely to survive). The red material is covered in a layer of copper alloy, poured over the red material when in liquid state. The centre of the upper surface has a circular depression with, in relief, a central figure crouching left. The exact function and purpose of this object is unclear. It may be an aborted or failed attempt to cast a coin, medal or token using modelling clay.

Scrap lead or possibly a crude wieght, cuboid with slight irregular sides and edges, one cut side and one concave, squashed side. It is 16.4mm by 13.3mm by 13.7mm and weighs 23.57 grams.
Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are hard to date precisely although most are late Medieval - Post Medieval. This piece appears to have been cut from a longer rectangular piece and may indicate they were casting lead on this site.

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Derbyshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead unidentified object with crude intertwined decoration on one side. The object is fairly flat on the reverse, but is generally twisted and bent out of shape and may be part of an object which was melted down. The decoration on the object may have allowed it to be used to imprint decoration on pottery, although this is uncertain. It is 47.1 mm in length, 28.3 mm wide and 6.9 mm thick. It weighs 31.8 grams. A date for this object has not been ascertained.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of uncertain form or date. It consists of a crescent shaped plate with flat back and moulded front face. This is narrow at one end and expands horizontally as the curve develops, terminating in old breaks at both ends. At the narrow end there is an additional band of moulded decoration attached to the outer edge of the object. This traces the outline of the edge of the plate and also terminates at both ends in old breaks. The additional band of decoration is separated from the main plate by a moulded groove visible on the front face only, and is d…

Cast copper alloy fragment from an unidentified object. The fragment is sub rectangular with flat front and back and edges and rounded corner. It is pelta shaped with a shallow convex curve on one side and two concave curves on the other with a point between. The outer points of the curves on both sides meet. All three points are rounded and the degree or corrosion and wear obscures which are complete and which end in old breaks. It is 32.1mm long, 8.7mm wide, 4.6mm thick and weighs 3.96.

Fragment of cast copper alloy bar, possibly an ingot. The bar is trapezoid in section with bevelled ends. One end appears complete as cast, the other has several of what may be cut marks by it and a broken irregular rim around the sides and narrowest side. This rim could possibly be caused by cutting but also looks like where something integrally cast, sich as a sheet side of a vessel has broken off. It is 34.6mm long, 15.7mm wide, 11.0mm thick (11.4mm including the rim) and weighs 32.79 grams.
