A copper-alloy medieval strap end probably dating from the 14th century AD. The strap end is formed from two strips of copper-alloy riveted together by two rivets, one at the attachment end and one at the terminal. Only the rivet near the terminal remains. The terminal has been cut into a trefoil shape. The rest of the strap end is rectangular in plan. One surface has been decorated with a barely discernable abstract motif. The original surface is largely missing but traces of a probable gilded surface remain. See SWYOR-9DEDC5, SWYOR-95CD81, LVPL-D48D53 and YORYM-06D010 on this databa…

An incomplete cast copper alloy elaborate strap end of later Medieval date (circa AD 1390 - AD 1410). Length: 40.16 mm; width: 22.81 mm and 6.34 mm thick. Weight: 12.8 g. The strap end is cast in one piece and the hollow attachment end is trapezoidal in plan. The strap end terminates in an elaborate terminal with apparent leaf decoration. This terminal is damaged. The attachment end has a rectangular incised field containing incised lettering. The strap-end is complete and comprises two parts with an additional separate rivet (with a length of 21.3mm and a weight of 2.1g). The end of the strap would have been enclosed within a lower plate (0.6mm thick) with folded sides and secured by a top plate (0.5mm thick), which is neatly soldered at the sides. The strap-end is widest at the attachment end (with a width of 9.7mm), with straight sides converging slightly to the outside edge (with a width of 9.2mm). The sides project beyond the attachment end (by 1.5mm) with an inverted V-shaped profile. The strap-end is also slightly th…

Fragment of silver or white metal, perhaps part of an ingot or cast blank for an unfinished early-medieval strap-end of Thomas's Class B. One end is broken or, more likely, cut, with a smooth facet at both upper and lower edges; the other is thickened and rounded to form a terminal. It is oval in cross-section, measuring 7.0mm wide and 3.75mm thick at the cut or break; the reverse is flattened and undecorated, and the upper surface has irregular transverse grooves along most of its length. The grooves appear to have been cast into the surface of the object, and at the broken end they …
