A worn and clipped 13th-century Medieval silver voided long cross penny of Henry III, struck by the moneyer Robert, Canterbury mint (1250-58 AD). Class 5: mule of class 5c and 5d. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, Nos. 993-994). This coin appears to be a mule of classes 5c and d because it displays features of both types. The crown is of pellet type (not split crown with fleur de lis), and with oval eyes and pellet centres (5c). The lettering is more akin to 5d, in particular the X and lombardic 'R'. The lettering for Canterbury 'ANT' is also ligated on the reverse.
