Hammered silver coin (North 1020). A worn and damaged silver medieval penny of Edward I, Newcastle mint, probably a class 3e with the long narrow face. The reverse inscription seems to be VILLA NOVI CASTRI and the obverse inscription is probably EDWR ANGL DND HYB. The diameter is 21mm. It dates from 1280 - 1281AD.

North 1991, Vol II, No. 1037/1, dating to c. 1299-1300/1. This coin is in very good condition, although the pattern of surface wear makes identifying specific features difficult; a small nick has been taken out of the legend area of the coin.
