A slightly clipped and extremely worn silver Sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603 AD). Initial mark: Castle, 1570-1572; Second Issue. Dated to 1571 on the reverse. Obverse depiction is completely obliterated on haphazard surface scratches probably from damage due to cultivation; the obverse legend reads: E[LI]ZABETH D:G ANG FRA ET [HIB REGINA]. The reverse depicts the royal square-top shield on long cross fourchee with the date 1571 above; the reverse legend reads: POSVI [DEVM AD]IVTOR[EM] ME[V]. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, No. 1997.
