A ceramic vessel fragment; a rim sherd of Post Medieval pottery. The fabric is hard and fine in texture. It is a mottled dark grey and orange colour with few visible inclsuions. The inner face and over the rim is glazed with a thick dark brown glaze which is blistered and discoloured to black. This may be a poorly fired version of a Post medieval black ware. The rim is simply angled outwards and the piece is too small to estimate the rim diameter. The sherd is 34.56mm long, 23.41mm wide and 7.87mm thick. It weighs 9.87gm.

Two ceramic vessel fragments; wall sherds of probably Post Medieval pottery. The fabric is hard and fine in texture, though abraded. It is a dark grey with few visible inclusions, but the smaller piece is less reduced and is buff coloured. The outer surfaces of the large piece and all faces of the small piece are glazed in a crazed uniform yellow green colour. The smaller piece is a rim sherd with a simple out turned rim, but is too small to estimate the rim diameter.

A French clay tobacco pipe with enamelled decoration. David Higgins comments: The top of the bowl would have been dipped in white enamel (a small part still remaining), and the foliage decoration is picked out in green. This style of pipe was produced from c1850-1920 but a late C19th date is perhaps most likely. It is also worth noting that the broken stem has been ground down for reuse - so someone clearly cherished this pipe! This type of pipe would have been much more expensive than the common types of short-stemmed cutty pipe produced in England at this time.

Handle sherd of North Devon grit ware (gravel tempered ware) of c.1600-1850 AD. Mid orange fabric with reduced areas and patches of reduced surface surviving. Abundent (c.30%) poorly sorted angular quartz inclusions up to 0.8mm across (coarse sand). The patches of reduced surface suggest it may have been glazed. The handle is 17.5mm across by 8.5mm thick and has an indent running down the front. It is very surved and probably came from the neck of a jar. 5.51g. Abraded edges and surface, the weathering has removed coarse grains from the surface leaving it pitted.
