A ceramic vessel fragment; a rim sherd of Post Medieval pottery. The fabric is hard and fine in texture. It is a mottled dark grey and orange colour with few visible inclsuions. The inner face and over the rim is glazed with a thick dark brown glaze which is blistered and discoloured to black. This may be a poorly fired version of a Post medieval black ware. The rim is simply angled outwards and the piece is too small to estimate the rim diameter. The sherd is 34.56mm long, 23.41mm wide and 7.87mm thick. It weighs 9.87gm.

A lead alloy seal, probably a bag or bale seal of post medieval date. On one side is a device of a square shield within a circular border of pellets. The lower edge of the shield is pointed in the centre and within the shield is a crude representation of a lion rampant, together with additional pellets. This approximates the arms of the Netherlands, suggesting that this seal may be of Dutch origin. The reverse has letters in two lines; these are difficult to interpret but may read 12K/GH. Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy unidentified object of probable Post Medieval date. It is a square sectioned curved bar. One end is rounded and the other end is broken. One third of the way from the rounded end is a triple collar projecting from the bar on all sides. Projecting from this on the outside of the curve is a cloud of melted, billowing metal. This does not appear to be intentional and may be the result of metal escaping from the mould during the casting process. The metal has a patchy green patina which suggests a date from the 16th century onwards.
