A cast copper-alloy object, probably a perfume flask or bottle of Medieval or later date. It is in two joining fragments due to post-depositional damage. The vessel is hollow cast and in the form of a parrot, with remains of a blackened substance probably resultant from the casting process visible in the hollow tail end. The parrot has relatively neat decoration highlighetd through incised lines and punched dots. Its head is oval shaped in form with projecting sub-triangular crest with incised central grooves and notched edges representing feathers. It has a circular eye with semi-c…

An incomplete stone object, probably a hone or whetstone of uncertain date. It is formed from a hard grey/brown stone, probably a schist or similar, with micaceous inclusions. The surviving fragment is rectangular in form and section, terminating at both ends in old breaks. Along one long side the edges have what appear to be longitudinal grooves or bevels, past which the object terminates in old breaks. The other three surviving surfaces are worn smooth and demonstrate signs of having been deliberately worn or used. It measures 77.37mm in length, 33.02mm in width, 19.28mm in thicknes…

Two fragments of painted wall plaster of uncertain date. They have a soft, slightly porous white fabric with some sandy and gritty inclusions, terminating in old breaks in all directions. The surfaces have been smoothed and prepared for painting, with traces of a dark paint visible on one fragment, now appearing gray in colour. Two body sherds from very abraded handmade vessels with worn surfaces and some burning in places. They have a coarse fabric with gritty inclusions and some clay pellets, as well as possible organic material in one of the sherds. They have a combined total weight of 36.70g. The precise date of these sherds remains uncertain. It is possible thay are of later Iron Age date, however an Early Anglo-Saxon or even Medieval date cannot be ruled out entirely due to the abraded nature of the sherds.

A fragment of cast copper-alloy metal working debris. It is rectangular in form, D-shaped in section and terminates at both ends in old breaks. The surfaces demonstrate signs of post-depositional wear and corrosion, and are crudely/unevenly finished. It measures 24.94mm in length, 8.79mm in width, 5.04mm in thickness and 5.72g in weight. Although this fragment has a relatively uniform shape it does not appear to have been finished as a complete object. It is possible that it is a fragment from a larger object that has been subject to damage and/or re-use, but it seems most likely that…

A fragment of cast copper-alloy metalworking debris. It has an irregular flattened base with oval shaped projection at the centre and globular projection at one end. Traces of diagonal striations on one of the upper surfaces may indicate this is an object that has been melted down for re-use at a later date, although if this is indeed the case precisely what this may originally have been remains uncertain. An incomplete cast lead object, possibly a fragment from a vessel or similar item of uncertain date. A large rim fragment is preserved, with folded or rolled rim, now cut into a roughly rectangular fragment perhaps as a result of re-use. The entire object has relatively worn surfaces, the front face beneath the rim containing moulded decoration. This comprises the remains of a vertical or diagonal band within which is contained interlace decoration formed from interlaced double strands or bands. The remains of a second vertical and may possibly be seen to the opposite side of the fron…
