A misshapen and corroded Medieval cast copper-alloy single-loop spur buckle with an integral plate (c. 1250-c. 1400 AD)
The frame is trapezoidal in plan, bevelled at the front and rear. The sides of the plate taper and then expand to form an oval attachment end. A small portion of a copper-alloy pin survives within a pin hole. Two copper-alloy rivet holes penetrate the plate along the median centre-line. There is curvilinear abstract design on the front of the plate.
This object is corroded and has traces of a dark green patina.
Length: 28.45mm; width: 17.64mm; thickness of loop: 3.59mm. Weight: 5.18g.
A similar buckle has been published and dated c. 1250-1400 (Whitehead 1996: 34, ref: 192). However, this Isle of Wight buckle may be later.

Cast copper alloy minature cannon, similar to guns of the eighteenth century. The stepped trunions suggest the gun was intended to be mounted in a gun carriage, so possibly a copy of a naval gun. Many of these cannons were fired and are often found with exploded barrels from mis-fires. There are good parallels on the PAS database, SUSS-68AA74, YORYM-6A2D04, LANCUM-EC68C8 are similar. The length is 112mm, the thickness is 19mm and the width is 25mm. The gun dates sometime between c1650 and 1900AD, but probably more likely dating to the last half of eighteenth, or first half of the nineteenth century.

An almost complete, slightly misshapen and corroded Medieval rotary key (c. 1300-c. 1500 AD).
The key has a lozenge-shaped bow, a hollow shank and openwork bit.
The open bow is largely circular in cross-section with a rounded knop at each side and a hollow tubular outer end. It measures 25.75mm in length, 28.94mm in width and 7.59mm in thickness. Between the bow and the shank there is large bulbous collar which is contiguous with a much smaller collar next to the shank. The shank flares slightly in width and thickness from the bow to its open end. It is oval in cross-section throughout its length and is hollow to a depth of 20.25mm from its open end where a small portion is missing. The bit measures 15.27mm in height, 20.30mm in width and 4.01mm in thickness. Openwork in the bit consists of an inverted 'T' with three wards and two clefts below.
The surfaces are corroded and have a patchy dark green patina. Where the patina is absent the metal surface is reddish brown. The break is old.
Length: 69.59mm; width: 28.94mm; thickness (at the open end of the shank): 7.84mm. Weight: 23.77g.

Cast copper alloy miniature cannon, similar to naval guns of the later nineteenth century. Originally it would probably have been mounted on either a gun carriage or wheels. There is some damage to the muzzle, probably due to an explosion when it was fairly new. Many of these cannons were fired and are often found with exploded barrels from mis-fires. There are good parallels on the PAS database, SUSS-494CB2 is nearly identical and LIN-8FE5B6, LANCUM-440420, IOW-8B08B7 are very similar. The length is 52mm, the thickness is 19mm and the width is 24mm. The gun dates sometime between c1750 and 1900AD, but probably last half of the nineteenth century.
