Cast copper alloy minature cannon, similar to guns of the eighteenth century. The stepped trunions suggest the gun was intended to be mounted in a gun carriage, so possibly a copy of a naval gun. Many of these cannons were fired and are often found with exploded barrels from mis-fires. There are good parallels on the PAS database, SUSS-68AA74, YORYM-6A2D04, LANCUM-EC68C8 are similar. The length is 112mm, the thickness is 19mm and the width is 25mm. The gun dates sometime between c1650 and 1900AD, but probably more likely dating to the last half of eighteenth, or first half of the nine…

Cast copper alloy miniature cannon, similar to naval guns of the later nineteenth century. Originally it would probably have been mounted on either a gun carriage or wheels. There is some damage to the muzzle, probably due to an explosion when it was fairly new. Many of these cannons were fired and are often found with exploded barrels from mis-fires. There are good parallels on the PAS database, SUSS-494CB2 is nearly identical and LIN-8FE5B6, LANCUM-440420, IOW-8B08B7 are very similar. The length is 52mm, the thickness is 19mm and the width is 24mm. The gun dates sometime between c17…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Lead or lead alloy mount, probably fairly modern 1800 to 1900AD, in the shape of a knight on a horse (the knight's head has come off & it looks like something may have come adrift under the horses hooves). It appears to have been mounted using a central stud. It measures 120mm long and 78mm wide. There is a copper alloy mount of similar subject on the PAS, BH-B91E31, but it has been attached at multiple points. It is worth noting that there were Pilgrim badges with a similar subject (possibly George & the Dragon)and made of the similar material (lead or lead alloy). There appears to b…

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Very small silvered cast copper alloy Georgian fob seal dating from the 18th century. The fob seal is complete with intaglio but the chain is missing. The body of the fob seal is decorated with moulded scrollwork, palmettes and ribbons, but the tinning/silver wash on the surface is very worn and only survives in patches. The intaglio is made from glass, probably, and is complete. Is shows the right-facing bust of a man wearing a cap with his hair curled back over the rim. He also seems to wear a draped cloak.
