A knapped flint scraper of probable Mesolithic date, c 8,300-3,500 BC. The scraper is sub-rectangular in plan and section. One face has three long facets, but only one edge demonstrates any evidence of retouch, and evidence for abrasion along this edge suggest the scraper was used prior to its loss. The flint is milky white in colour with grey nodules.

An incomplete knapped / flaked flint scraper, formed from a snapped blade / blade like flake, of probable Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic dating (6500 - 2900 BC). The scraper is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in cross section. It has been formed from the end of a blade / blade like flake. Controlled retouch is present along three of the sides. Conchoidal ripples are present on the dorsal (underside) surface. The scraper is a light grey / dark beige colour, with little surface patination. The scraper measures 21.21mm length, 23.43mm width, 4.88mm thick and weighs 3…

A dark brown flint scraper dating to the late Mesolithic to early Neolithic 6500 - 2100BC. The dorsal side is mainly cortical and has lots of conchoidal curves suggesting a lot of retouching. The ventrical side has a large, prominent bulb of percussion closer to one side of proximal end. The proximal end is rounded on the side closer to the bulb of percussion and slightly jagged on the side further from the bulb of percussion (not the distal though). The butt is flat and clean. The distal end seems to have snapped off as the end is clean and flat. This suggests that it was once part o…

Flint pebble end-scraper, oval in plan, lozenge in profile and hexagonal in section. Bulb on ventral face, with notched right edge. A layer of cream cortex is present on the dorsal face following the right and distal end except where scraper retouch occurs along the distal end. Notched on the left edge on dorsal face. The flint is caramel brown colour with brown ribbons and light inclusions. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 108, Fig. 5.92, No. 119, which is dated to the Mesolithic.

Rectangular piece of browny/grey coloured flint, the dorsal face has a prominent ridge running from the left proximal corner to the right distal corner, with gentle slope on either side. The proximal edge appears abraded and slightly flat along its edge and may be the remains of a striking platform. The left margin exhibits retouch along its edge, which appears nibbled, but refined pecking. The proximal end of the left margin also appears to show gloss. Terminating at the distal, where the edge appears concave, with the middle of the concave appearing to exhibit some retouch within …

Rectangular shaped piece of translucent dark brown coloured flint. The dorsal face exhibits what appears to be a single negative scar at the medial running across the face between the left and right margin. The distal edge, left margin and proximal edges all appears to have been subject to retouch with the exception of the right margin which appears to have been broken. The left margin has been subject to retouch along its full length making what could be a scraper edge. The distal retouch is limited to the centre of the edge, while the proximal retouch is also limited to the cent…

Off white coloured piece of flint, shaped like half a tear drop. The right margin appears to have been snapped off, the edge is clean and sharp. The distal edge terminates in a rough point, implying damage when the right margin was broken. The left margin does appear to exhibit some abrupt retouch along its edge. The dorsal face is smooth in appearance and appears to support the theory that this is only part of a tool, probably a scraper. The ventral face is smooth in appearance, no obvious indication of retouch along this face.

Circular shaped piece of translucent grey coloured piece of flint. The dorsal face exhibits a central peak which slopes down on all sides. The proximal edge appears to exhibits some retouch along its edge, The area between the distal edge and left margin also appears to exhibits retouch marks along the edge. The right side of the proximal edge could be looked upon as a tang, the image does not show how prominent it is. The ventral face is very smooth in appearance and texture, bulb of percussion is still present, with some conchoidal ripples present in the surface. Possible scrape…

A nearly complete flint knapped blade fashioned into a side scraper, probably dating to the Mesolithic period. The implement is knapped from medium brown translucent flint with some darker natural inclusions; a small area of opaque grey chert is visible on the ventral surface. Approximately 90% of the dorsal face is covered in chalky white-grey cortex and the scraping edge has been retouched with pressure flaking as well as light retouch to facilitate handling on the other lateral edge. The small bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples are visible on the ventral face, although corte…
