Record ID: SOM-34F0B4
Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint tertiary blade with extensive retouch, probably of Mesolithic date. The proximal end has been retouched/chipped with the platform and part of the bulb of percussion removed. Scars on the dorsal face from at least two previous long parallel removals form the same platform. Short semi-abrupt scalar to sub-parallel retouch worked from the ventral side down the entire right edge (looking from the dorsal face). Translucent pale grey-buff flint, 33.9mm long, 13.4mm wide, 3.8mm thick; 1.59 grams.

Central section of a knapped chert blade. The blade is broken at both the ventral and distal ends. At the ventral end the bulb of percussion has been removed by an irregular snap. There is a knapped notch to the right side which probably started the snap but it has not snapped evenly, creating a point down the left edge. The distal end is straight with short, scalar retouch. It is dark brown flint and is 28.7mm long, 22.8mm wide and 5.3mm thick, it weighs 3.32 grams.

Tertiary flint blade with small area of retouch, probably Mesolithic or Neolithic in date. The bulb of percussion and a bulb scar remains at the proximal end of the ventral face. The distal tip is snapped off. there is short, semi abrupt scalar retouch down both edges on the dorsal face apart from a point half way down where a deeper percussion wave on the ventral face has thinned the flint. On the left edge this point has been emphasises by a retouched notch. The flint is dark grey-brown. It measures 27.1mm long, 14.8mm wide by 4.7mm thick and weighs 2.06g.
